The primary responsibility of the Health & Safety Officer is to ensure that all workers on the construction site are working in a safe environment and are following all correct health & safety procedures.
The major tasks, duties, and responsibilities are listed below:
• Assist the appointed H&S Consultant with the preparation of construction projects health and safety files / plan
• Assist the appointed Risk Assessor, Fall Protection Planner developing documents
• Confirm necessary documentation was submitted to the relevant authorities
• Attend project planning meetings
• Assessments and approval of subcontractor(s) health and safety files
• Attend regular site, technical and progress meetings
• Facilitate site health and safety meetings
• Identification of the hazards and risks relevant to the construction project through regular coordinated site inspections
• Establish and maintain health and safety communication structures and systems, distribution of health and safety specific documents to sub-contractors
• Compiling project specific emergency response and preparedness plans
• Testing the effectiveness of the emergency response plans
• Conduct site Health & safety inductions
• Evaluate the levels of compliance of subcontractors to the project specific health and safety file / plan and client specifications through inspections and audits
• Assist appointed Accident / Incident investigator / Oversee the reporting and investigation of project related incidents / accidents
• Assist Contract manager’s / Site agents with developing method statements site specific
• Oversee the maintenance of all record
• Conduct toolbox meetings
• Promotes safe practices on site
• Enforces health & safety guidelines
• Establishes Health & safety standards and policies as needed
• Responds to employees’ health & safety concerns

Minimum requirements
• At least 3 years’ experience in construction work
• Valid driver’s license
• Mobile phone
• Introduction to SAMTRAC
• SAMTRAC –
• HIRAC
• ASHEPP
• Registration with the SACPCMP
• Valid competency certificates for Scaffolding Inspector, Supervisor & Scaffolding Erector, 1ST Aider, Firefighting and Asbestos work would be advantages
• Medically fit
